Everyone sleeps well when you board with us.

Boarding at Mile High Mutts is tons of fun. Since a day of day care is included in each night of boarding, your dog will be able to run around and play with other dogs and staff members for most of the day. (Very young and older dogs will be given a rest break if they appear to be getting overly tired.)

Overnight space is limited so make sure to book well in advance of a trip.

Accommodations

While dogs are pack animals, they also like to have their own special “den.” It is a nice quiet place for retreat after a long day of play. We have classical music, soft rock or jazz playing all the time.

We will keep your dog in the same crate each night. For our largest dogs we have 6-foot by 7-foot enclosures – Irish Wolfhounds, Mastiffs and very tall Great Danes are more than comfortable. Many owners bring toddler-sized mattresses, futons, etc. to make their large dog’s stay with us as close to being at home as possible.

Multiple-dog families can sleep together. We have a few customers with three and four dogs and the dogs love sleeping together in one pen. We are still able to feed them separately. The price for a group pen is $5 per night on top of regular boarding charges. (Not per dog, just for the pen.)

Drop-off Times

PLEASE, PLEASE drop your dog off as early as possible in the morning (we suggest before 9 a.m.). We do NOT allow afternoon drop offs – if boarding, your dog(s) must be dropped off before 11:30 a.m. We require this for a couple of reasons:

  • Introducing a new dog into the “pack” late in the day is problematic as the pack hierarchy has been set and the “new dog” will be seen as an outsider.
  • Your dog will have a much better stay with us if they has the day to run around, play and get acclimated. We want our overnight guests to go into their beds at night tired and ready for dinner.

Pick-up Times

If you pick up before 9 a.m., there is no additional charge.

If you pick up between 9 a.m. and noon, you will be charged for an additional 1/2 day of day care.

If you pick up between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., you will be charged for an additional day of day care.

NOTE: We only allow pick up between noon and 2 p.m. if an appointment was made before noon on the day of pick up, because this is nap time for all our dogs.

Bed Time

Our boarding is EXTENDED HOUR boarding. Dogs are not crated until 9:15 p.m. Their last potty break happens around that time and then they are put to bed. We strive to keep your dog on the same schedule that it is used to. We wouldn’t keep our dog in a crate for 12 hours so we won’t do it to yours! We do NOT have limited hours on the weekends. Many overnight facilities only open for a couple hours a day both Saturday and Sunday. We feel it is important for your dog to have interaction on the weekends as well as through the week – this is why we are fully staffed 365 days a year from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Food

We have a house brand food that we can feed to your dog ($2.00 per meal) but it is preferable if you bring your dog’s familiar food with them to board. It’s one less thing for the dog and you to stress about! This will limit bouts of upset tummy. We are very happy to accommodate dogs that require unusual feeding (BARF, Raw, etc). Just let us know your dog’s special situation and we will strive to meet it.

We feed all overnight guests in their crates – this allows them to be able to eat and digest their food in peace. And, all giant breeds are fed from an elevated bowl.

Food Do’s

  • If possible, please bring your dog’s food in a hard container
  • We have a fridge, so wet food and additives are perfectly fine
  • Prescription medications should be brought in the original bottle with the prescription label. (You may put the pills in a pill organizer, but the prescription must be included with the pill organizer.
  • Acceptable treats:  compressed rawhide, Nylabones and other treats such as pigs ears, bully sticks, and Flossie twists

Food Don’ts

  • NO real bones (they can splinter and stab the dog in the mouth or perforate their stomach)
  • NO rawhide bones (they can become unraveled and be swallowed whole causing a huge choking hazard)

Bedding & Toys

Please bring your dog’s bed and a blanket or towel that smells like home. It will allow s/he to feel more comfortable. One stuffed animal, ball or rope toy is also fine (if they won’t kill it!).

Why crates?

A few people have asked “Why not cage free?” As with nap times, dogs need a space to call their own. They are den animals and many will not go into a restorative sleep unless they feel safe and secure and know that no other dog will bother them at night. Restorative sleep means your dog stays healthy and can withstand the activity of a busy day care environment and be in a LOT better mood because they got a good night sleep. Owners of active breeds (Weims, Border Collies, Labs, Goldens, etc.) know that their dog will fall over from complete and utter exhaustion rather than pace themselves in many cases.

We also believe dogs should also have their own space to eat. Many dogs are food aggressive or will not eat as much of their food because they are nervous of other dogs milling around.

Security

We are in our building from 6:15 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. every single day of the week. Ours hours do NOT change on weekends or holidays.

For our overnight guests, our location is equipped with an alarm system that features glass break, fire and motion sensors. We have multiple cameras throughout the location that record onto a DVR system. These cameras run 24/7, so if “Houdini” escapes from his enclosure, the alarm company calls Marcus (who sleeps with his cell phone next to his head) and someone hustles back to make sure everything is taken care of. In addition, our friendly neighborhood police are located right across the street from us and we are within one mile of the fire station.

Reservations & Payment Policy

We accept cash, check, MasterCard, Visa and AMEX. Daycare and boarding services are paid in advance. HOLIDAY BOOKINGS are usually paid in advance on the 1st day of the month the holiday is in. For example, Nov. 1st is the payment date for Thanksgiving boarding and Dec. 1st is the payment date for Christmas boarding. If the holiday falls at the first of the month then it is due the month prior.

Refund Policy

If a package is purchased at the reduced rate and days are used, but you decide to cancel, we will charge you the regular daily rate and refund the difference between the non-package and package prices. Packages are transferable to other dogs within the same house hold.

Cancellation Policy

Holiday bookings are non-refundable and include: New Year’s, 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Prices are subject to change at any time.
